I missed the deadline to sign up for it! *Head desk* But they're letting me sign anyway.
I may have to bring my own books if Barnes and Noble can't get them in time, but I will be there and I will sign the 2nd and 3rd books in the Strange Neighbors trilogy. (I signed book 1 last year.) If I have to bring my own books, I'll add Vampire Vintage to the pile!


Later in the month (date and time TBD) I'll be signing at the Annie's Book Stop in Sharon, MA.
Merry is celebrating her 10th Annie-versary! My heroine in Strange Neighbors is named Merry...for the own of this book store! Stay tuned for more details.

Sept news is really light!

I've been working away on the new series and that's about all there is to tell this month. No book signings, blog tours, chats, nothin'. But maybe that's a good thing. It gives me a chance to talk about book 1 in the series. I just finished final line edits!

Here's a bit more than a blurb to whet your appetite:

Book 1 in Flirting with Fangs Trilogy: Flirting Under a Full Moon

Cocktail waitress Brandee Hanson has just been dumped via a text message. Dejected, she sits down with psychic Sadie who offers to cheer her up with a free tarot card reading. Sadie gets a premonition that Brandee’s true love is about to walk into her life. Brandee watches the door and in walks “One Night Nick.” A handsome playboy. Just what she doesn’t need.  

Nick Wolfensen is a werewolf and a paranormal private detective. He and Brandee have been attracted to each other and flirting for some time. Brandee is put off my Nick’s reputation. He’s called “One Night Nick,” for a reason. What people don’t know is that he’s avoiding emotional involvement so he’ll be free when he meets his true mate.  

His latest case is time sensitive, so he consults the psychic who practices out of a booth in his favorite bar. He’s been hired to find a kidnapping victim who has her own paranormal ability, although she’s unaware of it. The pre-teen is a fire-starter. Her power will erupt during the first solar eclipse after she reaches puberty—in other words, in nine days. Sadie narrows down the location of the girl to the theater district. 

Cocktail waitress Brandee overhears enough to know that Nick is talking about her little cousin Katie who’s gone missing. Who else has white hair at the age of twelve? She wants to help, but he sees her as only getting in the way. Brandee’s passion is photography, and when she’s on her own time she can go wherever she wants, right? How can he tell her not to practice her techniques for taking night photos on her evenings off? So, she shadows him.

When Nick shifts into a wolf to use his powerful sense of smell, Brandee can’t believe her eyes. She tries to convince herself it’s just a trick of the light, but she doesn’t really believe that. Her camera will tell her the truth, so she snaps a few pictures.

7/11 An important article my agent and I wrote called How to Beta Read a Manuscript will be posted at romconinc.com in their erotica blog section. I haven't seen an article about this opportunity for readers before (although there may be some.) We are sharing this on a site dedicated to romance readers, hoping it will read as many as possible. I'd appreciate a tweet about it if you're so inclined.


7/18 I'll be signing with 50 other New England authors of different genres at the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, MA. Ask me for complimentary tickets! I'll be happy to send them or meet you at the door with them. Times 4 to 9 p.m.


7/27 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ashlynsnewbestfriends/ will be having our monthly chat called Favorite Author Friday with the fabulous Cindy Spenser Pape. Join the email loop to participate. I give a $10 Barnes and Noble gift card and the author usually gives away a book of their choosing.

Spring in the city

Signs of spring bring to mind beautiful meadows with wildflowers, baby wildlife, and kids able to shed their coats and kick a ball outside again. And now that I live in NH, that's the spring I know.

But back when I lived in Boston and Spring arrived, even with warmer weather the awakening seemed less evident--maybe because the city never really experienced the quiet sleep of winter.

It takes until late May or June, but eventually the city blooms. The public gardens are a joy to walk again. The swan boats come out of storage. But the major change is with people. All winter, people hurried with heads down to get where they needed to go. Spring encourages a slower step. A smile. Maybe even a nod or hello.

My series for Sourcebooks is set in Boston. The upcoming spin-off series is still in Boston only a few blocks away on Beacon Hill. Today I want to share with you a walk I took last Spring. It was early June, and I can't think of a better time to visit.



My favorite seaon is spring and my favorite color combination is pink and green. It never occured to me before taking this walk, but those are the colors that finally come together when life blooms in the city.



This is where I used to live. The flowers here are a little sad, but what do you expect of students living in a dorm? If they're not tromping on them, you're happy.



Even Abigail Adams seems to be enjoying the beautiful flowers along Commonwealth Avenue.



Book one in the new Flirting with Fangs series begins in early spring, and book two takes place in later spring and summer. I hope you can see why these are the seasons and this is the city that inspire me.
